A famed American TV Actor, Dennis Weaver was born on Jun 4, 1924 and died on Feb 24, 2006 (Aged 81) in Joplin, Missouri, United States. He was best known for his roles as Deputy Chester Goode on the television series Gunsmoke and the eponymous Marshal McCloud in the television series McCloud. He also appeared in a number of movies, including Steve Spielberg’s first film Duel and Orson Welles’s movie Touch of Evil.
Before his acting career, Weaver was a fighter pilot in the U.S. Navy during World War II and tried out for the 1948 Olympic team in decathlon. He later enrolled in acting classes at the Actor’s Studio in New York City.
Weaver’s breakthrough came when he was cast as the character of Deputy Chester Goode on Gunsmoke, the longest-running live action television series in history at the time. The role earned Weaver an Emmy Award in 1958. He went on to appear in other television shows such as Kentucky Jones, Gentle Ben, Emerald Point N.A.S., and McCloud, for which he won another Emmy in 1971. He also made appearances in the movies Horace 62 and the disaster film Earthquake.
Weaver was married to his wife Gerry Stowell for over 60 years until her death. The couple had three children named Robby, Rick, and Rusty. He was also a member of the Screen Actors Guild from 1973 to 1975.
