Eminem's Old Childhood House Burned Down, Later Demolished

September 4, 2023

Eminem, born Marshall Bruce Mathers III, is a legendary rapper. He was born on October 17, 1972 in Missouri to Marshall Bruce jr, and Debbie Mathers. His father left the family before he was even two years old, and Debbie took him and moved to Detroit. Growing up in poverty, Em often used storytelling as a way to escape, and even had aspirations to become a comic book writer. He then found the world of hip-hop, and fell in love. He started rapping at age 14, often during school lunchtime, and local open mics. He starred in the 2002 film 8 Mile, portraying a character closely modeled after himself, and details his life growing up in Detroit and becoming a rapper. His songs, especially during the early years, were often strife with controversy, as they detailed horrific issues with his mother, his ex wife, and drugs. Today, Eminem is still succeeding, respected, and beloved, often referred to as the greatest rapper of all time. Check out Eminem’s old house below.

Eminem's childhood home was demolished in 2013 soon after it mysteriously caught fire. Located on Dresden Street, the 4,792 sq ft lot is among about 70 other vacant homes. The single story, two bedroom one bathroom home was originally built in 1945. His mother Debbie owned the home from 1992 to 2003. The boarded up home was featured on the cover of Eminem's album, "The Marshall Mathers LP2 ''. As well as an episode of "60 Minutes" when Anderson Cooper went with him to tour his childhood neighborhood. Before the home was demolished, The Land Bank in Michigan received about 120 bids to purchase the home at auction, including one avid fan who had plans to turn the home into a museum dedicated to Em. While no home has been rebuilt yet, the lot is not up for sale currently. According to Zillow, the empty lot is owned by James F Kolller. It would be nice to see a new home built in the space, I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Where Does Eminem Live?

Eminem Address: Dresden St, Detroit, MI 48205

Memory Lane

In this video more than 20 years ago, Eminem went back to the home he grew up in. He mentions that when he lived in the home there was a garage behind the home that burned down. Sadly the owners at the time wouldn’t let them in the home to take a look around, however they were able to go in the backyard and see where the garage and the old swing set used to be.

This video was posted on YouTube sometime after the home caught fire, and before it was demolished. It shows the interior of what once was.

In 2000 Eminem purchased a mansion in Clinton, MI for $1.5 million. He still owns the home today, located about 14 miles from his childhood home on Dresden Street.
