Two operatives from competing bureaus team up in this action flick, starring Academy Award(r) winner Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg. They’re not on the same side, but they have to work together as criminals to bust a drug lord and his henchmen. And that’s only half the story – the other half involves their distrust of each other.
The film crew shot much of 2 Guns in New Orleans, Louisiana and throughout the state of New Mexico. The filming took place during the summer of 2012 and it was the first time that Icelandic director Baltasar Kormakur made his directorial debut in America.
As New Mexico’s largest city, Albuquerque served as the location for many of the movie’s scenes. The crew filmed at the downtown area’s commercial buildings, as well as several local neighborhoods. The sober home of dedicated DEA agent Marlon Jessup was shot near Audubon Park, while henchman Papi Greco’s bohemian ranch-style house was lensed in the River Ridge neighbourhood.
New Mexico also served as the backdrop for some of the movie’s action sequences. The filmmakers filmed in Santa Fe, which is known for its rich Native American culture, Canyon Road, and Rio Grande and its Museum and Garson Studios. They also filmed at the local stockyard, which featured a maze of catwalks, chutes and cattle pens.
Various towns in the Taos County were used for outdoor shots, including San Cristobal, where they filmed at the infamous Mama Maybelle’s Diner. The town’s historic homes and ranches, John Dunn Bridge, farms, and Rio Grande Hot Air Balloons were also part of the movie’s scenery.
