Hulu's newest miniseries, Dopesick, is a drama that delves into the people and mechanisms behind America's opioid crisis. Based on Beth Macy's 2018 nonfiction book 'Dopesick: Dealers, Doctors and the Drug Company That Addicted America,' the show takes a look at how corporate profits repeatedly trumped public safety, especially within economically marginalized communities. The story also focuses on Purdue Pharma and the creation of OxyContin, one of the most addictive drugs in modern history. The miniseries stars Michael Keaton, Kaitlyn Dever, Will Poulter, Rosario Dawson, and Peter Sarsgaard in a series that's garnering both critical acclaim and award nominations.

Dopesick is filmed in Virginia, and Beth Macy reportedly requested that the filming location be kept as close to her novel as possible. The production crew filmed in Richmond, Bowling Green, Lexington, and Clifton Forge (which became the fictional town of Finch Creek for the series). The cast was comprised of over 200 locals who were hired to help bring the story to life.

Within the capital city, a 250,000 square-foot warehouse was converted into a massive set for Dopesick. Several spots around Richmond were also used, including the Manchester Bridge, Canal Walk, The Fan District, Bookbinder's Restaurant, and Boulevard Burger and Brew. The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in the city's museum district was also a filming location, appearing as the Sackler family home in the show.
