The syfy series Eureka takes place in a fictional high tech town of the same name, located in Oregon and populated by scientific geniuses who work for the company Global Dynamics. The community is camouflaged by an electromagnetic shield and its existence is kept as a secret from the rest of the world. The show is funny, the cast has great chemistry and Colin Ferguson is very believable as Sheriff Jack Carter. Unfortunately it doesn't have the depth of a series like Stargate SG-1 or Battlestar Galactica, and it can get a little quirky for an audience used to sci fi with lots of spaceships and robots.

But if you're willing to travel a bit to Chilliwack and spend some time on the set, it's worth the trip. We toured the set last week as part of the Sci Fi Digital Press Tour and had the opportunity to see Wellington Street, a grouping of non-descript large warehouse buildings sitting on the Vancouver Film Studios lot in Chilliwack, BC, transformed into Eureka's Main Street. We walked through the sheriff's office, the set of Cafe Diem and even into the lower level of GD where they film the goo from episode 1x12 "Once in a Lifetime".

The producers and crew were very gracious and we had a great time visiting the set. It's an amazing set for such a small town and the cast and crew really seem to enjoy working together. It's a shame that the show didn't find a larger audience but it is still a very enjoyable comedy with great characters, a solid script and good production values.
