Featuring Amy Adams and Matthew Goode, Leap Year is a romantic comedy film based on Irish folklore. It centers on real estate stager Anna Brady who is frustrated with her cardiologist boyfriend Jeremy Sloane for not proposing to her after four years together. In order to get him to commit, she decides to travel to Ireland on February 29, leap day, to invoke an ancient Irish tradition that allows women to propose to men. She hires surly Irish innkeeper Declan to accompany her on her journey.
The heartwarming scene where Jeremy finally proposes to Anna is shot in a Dublin hotel lobby. Carton House Hotel in Maynooth acts as a stand-in for the lobby and is considered one of the most historic hotels in the country. Besides the city of Dublin, some other scenes from Leap Year were shot in the beautiful Glendalough and Wicklow Mountains.
The movie’s most memorable scene is the final proposal sequence that was filmed on Inishmore, Aran Islands. This location is located on Galway Bay off the west coast of Ireland and also serves as the perfect stand-in for the Dingle Peninsula shown in the movie.
