When Mad Men premiered in 2007 on AMC, it was an instant hit, grabbing viewers with its suave ambition and sexy sartorial choices. But while the show might have an aura of New York, only the pilot episode was shot on location in Manhattan, with subsequent production moving to Los Angeles. And the city is still very much a character on the series, with locations from the infamous Three Clubs (where Don and Roger have a veritable orgy of oysters and cocktails) to the venerable Quality Cafe in Downtown LA playing home to many a Madison Avenue office worker.

The iconic series captivated fans with its realistic depiction of 1960s advertising, and it was no wonder that it won numerous awards and accolades over the years. From the fashion to the acting, it's easy to see why it became an Emmy fave and opened the door for other original AMC programming. The show has also led to a career resurgence for its stars, with Jon Hamm and Elisabeth Moss snagging multiple award nominations and wins. January Jones and Christina Hendricks have also branched out, with both actresses landing on X-Men this year.

And while some of the show's most recognizable scenery was filmed at the Silvercup Studios in Los Angeles, other locations from the Big Sur to the Downtown L.A. Historic Oviatt Building were used as well.
