Where is Outlander Season 7 Filmed?

September 20, 2023

When it comes to the most epic historical romance on TV, few can rival Outlander. The Starz hit series follows World War II nurse Claire Fraser as she time-travels back to 1743 Scotland and falls in love with Highland warrior Jamie Fraser. While the show has taken Claire and Jamie to fictional River Run in Georgia and the historic Lallybroch estate, the bulk of the filming for all six seasons has been based primarily in Scotland. This is largely thanks to the fact that the show’s producers rely on real locations rather than green screen for their stunning production design.

In fact, the entire team has just wrapped up season seven in Scotland, with a photo shared by the show showing Caitriona Balfe (Claire), Sam Heughan (Jamie) and Sophie Skelton (Brianna) on set for their new episode. While it has been a while since Season 6 ended, fans are already eagerly awaiting the return of their favorite couple.

Fans will be happy to hear that filming for Outlander Season 7 is officially over, with the crew having wrapped up in Cumbernauld in February 2023. While it will take a while for the full season to make its way to viewers, fans can look forward to seeing more footage from the Scottish countryside, including a return to some of the show’s most famous locations.

One of the most notable locations is the infamous Craigh na Dun site where the first Outlander episode opened with Claire and Jamie standing beneath the mysterious stones. The actual site is near Kinloch Rannoch in the Scottish Highlands. The series also filmed at Doune Castle, which was used as the stand-in for the fictional Castle Leoch. The real-life castle was once owned by the Dukes of Marlborough. It also served as a base for the Scottish army during the Jacobite rebellion. Other stand-ins for the series include the Callanish Stone Circle on the Isle of Lewis and Blackness Castle in West Lothian, which was the location for the prison where Jamie was held captive by Black Jack Randall.
