When it comes to satirical views of small town life, few do it better than Welcome to Flatch. The FOX mockumentary series, inspired by BAFTA-winning British show 'This Country,' has already been renewed for a second season. Its 14-episode first season wrapped up May 26 with a holiday-themed finale. Reviews have compared it to Parks and Recreation and The Office.
While the series is based in Flatch, Ohio, filming for the program takes place in various locations throughout southeastern North Carolina. In particular, Burgaw serves as a major setting. The town has been home to several filming projects in the past, including 'Succession' and 'American Pie.'
As the show continues to film in and around the city, a variety of locations will serve as backdrops for the action. Some of the most significant include Bishop Rayford Hankins Memorial Park and Olde Carolina Eatery. Other locations used in the city include the Macedonia AME Church, the historic train depot, and the Burgaw United Methodist Church.
The main cast of 'Welcome to Flatch' includes standup comedians Chelsea Holmes and Sam Straley as Kelly Mallet and Shrub Mallet, two cousins whose hijinks and get-rich-quick schemes cause trouble for the entire town of Flatch. Other members of the cast include Seann William Scott as Father Joe, Taylor Ortega as Nadine Garcia-Parney, and Aya Cash as Cheryl Peterson. The cast is rounded out by several recurring members of the crew.
