Patricia richardson is an American actress, regional theater artist, film producer, and philanthropist who has been working in the entertainment industry for over four decades. She is best known for her role as Jill Taylor in the hit ABC sitcom Home Improvement, and has received several awards and nominations throughout her career. Her acting career began in 1974, as an understudy for the role of Gypsy Rosa Lee in Angela Lansbury’s Broadway production of Gypsy. She has also worked in local theater, commercials, and other Broadway and off-Broadway plays.
In 1991, Richardson became Frances Fisher’s last-minute replacement in what would become her breakout role as Jill Taylor on the ABC sitcom Home Improvement. She received four Emmy and two Golden Globe nominations for this performance. In addition to her work on Home Improvement, Richardson has hosted the Emmys with Ellen DeGeneres, starred in the Lifetime miniseries Undue Control with Brian Dennehy and Sophie, and played the lead in Ulee’s Gold in theatre.
