So You Think You Can Dance - Where Is It Filmed 2017?

October 21, 2023

While dance competitions had been a staple of American television for decades prior to So You Think You Can Dance, the show was the first of its kind that focused solely on a single genre of performance. The show revitalized dance as a form of expression and entertainment, and now reaches audiences across the country, not just in Los Angeles where it’s filmed.

So You Think You Can Dance was first broadcast in the summer of 2005, and localized versions of the series have since been produced for 39 other countries around the world. The US version is aired on Fox and is hosted by Cat Deeley. The judges for the show are composed of dancers, choreographers, and industry experts who assess each contestant’s ability to execute a routine in various styles. The judges are also responsible for scoring the performances and determining the winner of each episode.

During the 16th season of SYTYCD, there are two new faces at the judges' table. The series creator and co-creator Nigel Lythgoe remains, but this season saw the addition of freestyle hip-hop star Stephen "tWitch" Boss and entertainer Laurieann Gibson.

Both of the new judges are no strangers to SYTYCD, with Gibson having been a guest judge on previous seasons and Boss appearing as a runner-up in Season 4.

One returning contestant who made it all the way to The Academy is twenty-six-year-old Dustin Payne, whose routine to Ben Rector’s Brand New highlighted more than a dozen different dance styles. Payne, who was sent home during the ballroom round of choreography in season 14, has since starred in the Disney High School Musical telepics and Grease Live!, as well as the DC Comics live-action comedy Powerless.
