The History Channel's Alone survival show isn't messing around when it comes to putting its contestants in dangerous situations. In fact, one of the most recent preview clips shows a participant coming face-to-face with a mountain lion. And it's not the only wild encounter this season's cast has had. The eighth installment of the series was filmed in British Columbia, the westernmost Canadian province that's home to plenty of rugged terrain. The show's crew selected the shores of Tsilhqox Biny (Chilko Lake) for season 8, which marked the first Alpine season in the show's history.
Chilko Lake is the site of some of the most extreme challenges that the participants on Alone have ever faced. For example, Clay Hayes survived 74 days in the wilderness at this location and faced off against freezing temperatures, starvation, and even a grizzly bear. He also tracked and killed a deer, which he used to make jerky, brain-tanned its hide, and fashioned a hat out of its head.
Other competitors such as Theresa Emmerich Kamper and Colter Barnes have experienced similar dangers on the show. In fact, Kamper was medically evacuated after 69 days due to low BMI. Colter, who came in third place this season, now lives in Gustavus, Alaska and teaches homesteading skills at Tidelines Institute.
The History Channel's Alone website currently lists season 9 as "coming soon." It would likely air in June 2021, in keeping with the typical time of year when the show premieres.
