The upcoming Netflix series Florida Man stars Edgar Ramirez as Mike Valentine, a disgraced ex-cop forced to return to his home state of Florida to find a Philly mobster’s runaway girlfriend. What should have been a quick gig spirals into a journey into buried family secrets and an increasingly futile attempt to do the right thing. The limited series is created by Donald Todd and Michael Costigan and produced by Aggregate Films. The show is based on the book of the same name by William Wharton.
While the production team certainly used some locations in the Sunshine State, the bulk of the filming took place in Wilmington, North Carolina. The city’s shopping center of The Pointe at Barclay at 1450 Barclay Pointe Boulevard served as a primary location, with sets constructed to limit the number of locations the crew had to travel to. Sets were also erected at local studio Dark Horse Studios at 301 Harley Road.
Additionally, the production team used locations in nearby Scotts Hill and Wilmington as well as the city’s historic downtown district. Some scenes were filmed at the waterfront area of Riverfront Park, while others were shot at the historic St. Augustine Cemetery in the heart of downtown. Moreover, the series filmed at numerous businesses in the city including UniFirst Uniform Services at 1821 Dawson Street, All Ways Graphics at 120 Racine Drive #3, and Stevens Ace Hardware at 6756 Market Street.
