The first series of Imma Tataranni, Substitute Prosecutor starring Vanessa Scalera and directed by Francesco Amato was a big hit and brought a lot of attention to the beautiful city of Matera. The second series is set to air in 2022. But what is it really like to film there? Here is an inside look from two of the cast members.
Imma Tataranni is working hard to get to the bottom of a case when she gets a visit from her mother-in-law. The woman does not have the best reputation, and Imma doesn't get along with her much at all.
But then she gets a piece of anonymous information that helps her connect some dots, both literally and figuratively. She and Calogiuri go to the site where the remains were found and talk to the owner. He is not very forthcoming, and Imma thinks he may be hiding something.
After that Imma visits Andrea Saponaro's mother and has a long conversation with her. She also goes to the beach with Calogiuri and meets some people she knows from the judicial auctions. Imma also sees Milena at a reunion dinner and catches up with her.
The show is filmed both in the historic center of the city of Matera and in the small villages that dot the surrounding countryside. Viewers get authentic glimpses of this magical region that seamlessly blends old and new. This is the same area that was used to film Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ, and more recently the chase scenes for James Bond's No Time To Die starring Daniel Craig.
