The Mandalorian is a new hit show on Disney+ that follows the adventures of a lone bounty hunter in the outer reaches of the galaxy. It stars Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin aka The Mandalorian, who travels through wild planets in an effort to protect a force-sensitive child known as Grogu. The popular series has been nominated for many awards and received critical acclaim from fans.
The production of the Mandalorian is based in Southern California, particularly Los Angeles County. The main studio is the MBS Media Campus in Burbank, and the show also filmed at numerous locations in the area.
While The Mandalorian may look like it is filmed in actual locations, the majority of it is actually created digitally. This is due to the use of a unique filming technique called The Volume. The Volume is a space filled with wall to wall digital screens that display an environment around the actors. The actors are then able to interact with the digital scene and create realistic interactions with it.
For scenes that take place in a desert, the production team turned to Death Valley National Park in California. This arid park features some of the most striking landscapes in the United States, including its infamous Manly Beacon and Red Cathedral. In addition, the Mandalorian team used Death Valley to create the arid scenery of the fictional planet Tattooine in the Star Wars trilogy. Moreover, the volcanic terrain and ominous surroundings of the Kilauea Volcano in Hawaii were used to portray the planet Nevarro.
