Filming for the second season of Netflix’s Sandman has commenced. Production started this June at Shepperton Studios, which is part of the Pinewood Group in Shepperton, UK. The show is based on Neil Gaiman’s comic series of the same name and stars Tom Sturridge as Dream, Gwendoline Christie (Lucifer), Vivienne Acheampong (Cruella), Kirby Howell-Baptiste (Death) and Patton Oswalt (Deus Ex Machina).
Much like the first season, the production will be based primarily in the southeast of England. Canary Wharf, which stood in for New York City, was a key location for the series, and scenes were also shot at Richmond Green, Guildford Cathedral, and Shepperton Studios Leavesden.
The tavern that Dream and Death visit in Episode 6, “The Sound of Her Wings” was filmed at the White Swan Pub on Old Palace Lane in Petworth. Its interior was remodeled for the production, and it’s a long way from the 1389 flashback of Hob Gadlin’s tavern featured in the comics. Other locations seen in the show include 8 Stone Buildings, which plays St Thomas’ Hospital, and Scotney Castle for the House of Mystery and House of Secrets.
The first season of the show was a critical and commercial success, and the second is sure to follow suit. With a stellar cast, the production looks set to please fans of the comic book series.
