Every child at some point dreams of becoming a veterinarian. It’s a job that sounds like the most perfect way to spend your life—working with animals all day, right? But when you get older, the reality of blood and guts and fecal matter makes many people change their minds. Thankfully, there are still some shows that allow you to live out your childhood fantasy without all of the grossness. One of the most popular is The Incredible Dr Pol, which follows veterinarian Jan Pol and his team at Pol Veterinary Services in rural Michigan.
The Incredible Dr Pol is currently in its 20th season and is available to stream on Disney+. Pol’s clinic in Weidman has treated thousands of animals over the years, and the show follows him as he and his staff save lives and care for all manner of pets and livestock.
Pol has been working as a vet since the 1970s and has built his practice from the ground up. He and his wife Diane started Pol Veterinary Services in 1981, and they’ve helped hundreds of thousands of animal patients since then.
Pol’s team includes a handful of veterinarians, one of whom is his daughter Brenda Grettenberger. She grew up on a farm and went to MSU for college and veterinary school, where she studied large animal medicine. During her final year, she responded to a help wanted ad in the AVMA journal and began working at Pol Veterinary Services.
