The Jennifer Hudson Show is a new daytime talk show that premiered in syndication on September 12 — which also happened to be the singer's birthday. The EGOT winner landed the gig following her major wins at the NAACP Image Awards, including Entertainer of the Year and the award for Actress in a Motion Picture for her performance as Aretha Franklin in Respect. She's been a fan-favorite ever since.
The show is filmed in the same studio that was home to Ellen DeGeneres' long-running talk show, and the multi-hyphenate star has already started giving fans a peek behind the scenes of her set. In an Instagram post, she shared photos of her "artist entrance" with her name and the show's logo emblazoned on it, along with pictures of binder's labeled with her image and the show's logo on a desk and a team meeting with at least a dozen staffers huddled around a table.
She also posted a video of her welcoming the first few guests — "Idol" judges Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul, Viola Davis, and NBA legend Earvin "Magic" Johnson — to her home base. Fans got a glimpse of the living room that is the host's home base and a piano area that seems to have some leftover elements from DeGeneres' show.
Ahead of the show's premiere on Monday, PEOPLE went back to the studio to see how the production runs. The music blared, and the crew worked in unison. Makeup touch-up professionals rushed in between segments, while producers with clipboards huddled and collaborated around the couch where Hudson sits.
