Fresh off playing perhaps the grumpiest character in literature, actor Paul Giamatti has donned a suit and wig to become Albert Einstein in the latest Verizon commercial. The theoretical physicist, who was one of the most influential scientists of all time, is seen complaining about his weak signal and then being prompted by a Verizon girl to upgrade to their Welcome Unlimited plan for $25 per line, guaranteed for three years.
While some viewers online have already recognized the actor in this new Verizon ad, others may still be trying to figure out who plays the role of the famous scientist. In addition to his work on the Showtime series Billions, Giamatti is well-known for his resemblance to Einstein and has often been asked about his lookalike appearance by fans on social media.
The ad was filmed in front of Keating Hall, located at Fordham University, in the Bronx. The location is a popular choice for filming as it is close to many of the city’s top attractions, including Yankee Stadium, the Bronx Zoo and Orchard Beach.
The ad was also filmed in the area around Lincoln Center and Rockefeller Plaza. In addition, the ad features scenes from the Broadway musical The Boys in the Band. For those who are not familiar with the play, it is a drama about two former friends who become bitter rivals after one of them becomes a big-time Broadway star while the other remains in relative obscurity.
