You may be asking yourself that question, well the answer is here in Schuyler, Virginia the boyhood town of Earl Hamner Jr the author and creator of The Waltons TV series. The series depicts the ups and downs of a rural family in America in the 1930's. It was based on Hamner's novel Spencer's Mountain which in turn detailed some of his own upbringing in rural parts of Virginia.

Some of the scenes were filmed at the actual homestead of the Walton's but much was filmed on sound stages in Hollywood, California. You can still see the original house and many other sets from the show such as Drucilla's Pond and Ike Godsey's general store. The homestead also includes the childhood home of Earl Hamner Jr and is open to the public.

Across the street is a museum dedicated to The Waltons that has recreations of the Walton's kitchen, living room and John-Boy's bedroom as seen on the show. There is also a replica of the front porch and the original shed where Earl would sometimes retreat to write his novels. In addition there is a gift shop that carries a large variety of memorabilia from the show.

During the week you can usually visit for free but on weekends there is a small admission fee. It's best to call ahead for an appointment. Overnight guests of the B&B and people on a paid tour are allowed to enter the house.
