Kamala Harris currently lives in a Washington D.C. home, also known as the Naval Observatory. It is the official home of the Vice Presidents of the United States. Originally built in 1983, in 1974 Congress officially authorized it as the residence of the Vice President. President Gerald Ford's Vice Pres Nelson Rockefeller, was the first VP to call the Naval Observatory home. Although he only lived there part time due to already having a lavish and secure home in D.C. The first Vice President to live full time in the home was Walter Mondale, with every subsequent VP living there during their term. The wealthy Rockefeller family donated home furnishes worth hundreds of millions of dollars. In 2001, the United States Navy refurbished the home once again, which delayed former VP Dick Cheney from moving in. Current VP Kamala Harris also delayed her move while the home underwent more renovations. She officially moved into the mansion in April 2021.
