Where in Guadeloupe is Death in Paradise Filmed?

With its swoon-worthy beaches, tropical jungle and gripping who-dunnit storylines, Death in Paradise is a firm favourite among fans. But, where exactly is the show filmed?

Guadeloupe, a butterfly-shaped collection of islands in the Caribbean, is where you'll find most of the scenes for the hit series. This overseas territory of France - and French-speaking region - stands in for the fictional Saint Marie, with its picturesque villages and lush landscapes.

The main village used for the show is the pretty fishing port of Deshaies, on the north-west coast of Basse-Terre. The town is surrounded by stunning beaches, such as Grande Anse, with wide sands and leaning palm trees. The town also has a cute little church and the red-roofed police station you'll see in aerial shots, as well as restaurants and bars frequented by cruisers. This is where cast and crew base themselves when filming for up to six months a year, staying at the luxury Fort Royal resort or the smaller O Coeur des Deshaies hotel.

If you're a fan of the show, it's worth making a trip out to some of the major filming locations, such as the detective's beach hut and Catherine's bar. And, you can easily do it on a self-guided tour of the island. You'll also want to make sure you check out La Soufriere Volcano and Pointe-a-Pitre, Guadeloupe's colourful cultural capital.
