After a stint in the Caribbean, DI Humphrey Goodman and his fiancee Martha Lloyd have moved to the coastal town of Shipton Abbott in Devon. Filming for the spin-off, which sees them living with Martha’s mother Anne Lloyd (Barbara Flynn) and starting their new life together, took place around the South West. And while the fictional town of Shipton Abbott is a murder hotspot, fans are eager to know where is beyond paradise filmed in devon so they can find their favourite locations on screen.
The main town used for the series is Looe, a small seaside resort that regularly attracts TV and film crews. Fans have been able to spot the town’s fire station, a restaurant and even a 12th Century coaching inn in the show. Filming also took place at nearby Port Eliot House and Gardens where a painting is stolen in a dramatic art heist episode. Port Eliot is the ancestral seat of the Earl of St Germans and is owned by the National Trust.
Other filming locations include Kynance Cove, Looe Guildhall and the Tamar Valley where scenes were shot in both Cornwall and Devon – it’s a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and straddles the county border. The Weary Friar pub where Humphrey and Esther share a drink with locals is located on the Tamar and you can also spot the Reservoir Cafe at University of Plymouth where the pair are seen chatting in one scene.
