Where is Doc Martin Filmed?

November 16, 2023

After 10 incredible series of Doc Martin graced our screens, it’s not surprising that the quaint fishing village of Port Isaac in Cornwall has become a hotspot for megafans wanting to see the real-life setting. Whether it’s to visit Fern Cottage, the exterior of Doctor Ellingham’s home and surgery in the show, or Aunty Joan’s cottage above Squeezy Belly Alley, these visitors can get a unique insight into the behind-the-scenes of this beloved British TV drama by embarking on a local tour.

While some local businesses have benefited from this influx of rubbernecking tourists, others say the fans’ attention has hampered their trade and pushed house prices out of the reach of local families. In addition, critics have also claimed that the show has exacerbated drug problems in the community.

Aside from the infamous Golden Lion Pub, which features in multiple scenes of the show, a number of other locations in the town have also been used for filming. For example, the Camelot Castle Hotel in Tintagel doubled as the health board meeting venue in the first episode of series one, Lanteglos by Camelford Church served as the location for Louisa’s jilted wedding in series three, and Dinnabroad Farm in St Treath played the role of Aunty Joan’s farm. The 15th century St Nonna’s Church in Altarnun also appeared prominently in series three and six, with the famous bench ends featuring 79 figures of animals and humans proving particularly popular with fans. Meanwhile, Roscarrock Manor Farm on the outskirts of Port Isaac provided the backdrop for many interior shots, and the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro appears in all hospital scenes.
