Where is General Hospital Filmed?

For 52 years, scandalous drama and tantalizing love stories have rocked a fictional hospital in Port Charles, New York. Even though the city and the hospital are not real, millions of devoted fans watch ABC's long-running soap every day. The show has won countless Emmy awards and is the longest-running scripted daytime drama in history.

General Hospital is filmed at Prospect Studios in Los Angeles, California. The studio is on a former lot that once housed classic shows like American Bandstand, Let's Make A Deal and Family Feud. The studios also houses a stage that can be transformed into any floor of the hospital. There are more than 200 different sets on one large floor! The set crew is constantly changing things around to keep the action fresh.

The actors often use the same rooms for multiple scenes, so the staff must be able to change everything from the elevator numbers to the floor signs. Occasionally, a prop is so important to the scene that it can't be moved. For example, a pen on the nurses' station kept "wandering off" so the crew had to glue it down!

Despite the Covid-19 lockdowns, many of the stars are still filming scenes. This is especially true for actresses whose characters have been in the midst of an ongoing storyline. In fact, Donnell Turner (Dr. Drew Cassadine) is a Seattle native who went to college near Tacoma!
