Jeremy Renner's latest series with Taylor Sheridan, co-creator of Yellowstone, is a dark and gritty drama that features brutal violence that rivals the gore seen in the hit zombie show The Walking Dead. Heads are blown off, people get stabbed with blades, and there's even an explosive prison riot in the first season of Kingstown. The 10-episode series has a lot of fans wondering: where is it filmed?
The majority of the show was filmed in Canada. The cast and crew found fitting locations in Kingston, Brantford, Hamilton, and Toronto. According to Cinemaholic, the filming for the first season began in May 2021 and wrapped up in October of that year.
After thorough research, the team decided on Kingston, Ontario as the main shooting location. The city is on Lake Ontario and is often referred to as the Limestone City. It's considered one of the oldest cities in Ontario, and it's home to Kingston Penitentiary, which features prominently on the show as Kingstown Prison.
The city also served as the setting for scenes featuring the police department and the town of Kingstown. Various buildings and streets were used, including the R. C. Harris Water Treatment Plant in the city's North End.
Outside of Kingston, the production team filmed in Hamilton and Toronto for scenes that needed to be set on the urban side of things. The makeshift prison that housed the rioters in the season 1 finale was a tent city built in a fenced-in area at Carrie Blast Furnaces along the Monongahela River near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
