The BBC and Britbox drama Hope Street is back with a third series which premieres this week. Starring Niall Wright (PC Callum McCarthy) and Karen Hassan as DI Leila Hussain the show has become incredibly popular across Northern Ireland, the UK and in the US through the streaming service Britbox. It’s a story that revolves around the lives of the local police force at Port Devine and has been shown to have a great impact on those who watch it.
While it is set in a fictional town, the show has a real feel to it and each episode is a self-contained crime story. This is thanks to the work of writers and directors Paul Marquess and Susanne Farrell, who have captured the warmth of County Down with their production. Marquess has been very open about his excitement to be returning to the county to film this new series.
One of the best places to visit while watching Hope Street is the historic Port Devine harbor, which is a must-see for fans of the show. According to Discover Northern Ireland, the harbor is one of the most iconic features of the area and on a clear day you can even see Scotland. The area is also home to the Motte, which is a fortified structure that sits atop a hill and can be seen from various parts of the town.
In addition to the beautiful harbor, Port Devine is a hub for foodies with numerous restaurants and cafes. The town’s signature dish is the prego, which is a beef steak sandwich served on bolo do caco bread. There are also many other options including seafood, pasta and meat dishes. The area is also known for its artisan cheeses and wine.
