Where is Stars Hollow Filmed?

November 4, 2023

As fans of the show, we've come to know and love the fictional hamlet of Stars Hollow, Connecticut. The quaint little town is where we meet Lorelai and Rory Gilmore, the mother-daughter duo that's become synonymous with small-town charm and the power of strong women. We've seen them grab coffee at Luke's Diner, have awkward dinners with their parents, and catch up over books in the local bookstore. But where is Stars Hollow filmed?

Though the series is set in a fictional town, many of the locations are real. Show creator Amy Sherman-Palladino found inspiration for the town of Stars Hollow while traveling through western Connecticut with her husband. They stayed at the five-star Mayflower Inn & Spa, which served as the inspiration for the Dragonfly Inn on the show. The town is also home to a charming gazebo, which is where you'll find the Stars Hollow sign in the opening credits.

The majority of filming for the show took place on the Warner Bros studio lot in Burbank, California. They created an entire backlot called "Midwest Street," where they positioned the gazebo, along with sets for many of the restaurants and shops you see on the show.

However, there are a few locations that were used to capture the essence of the town, including the actual Washington Depot and Titus Park (for the exterior of Gipsy's garage) and Hickory Stick Bookshop in Washington, Connecticut, which serves as the Stars Hollow Bookshop on the show. There is no dedicated tour for the Warner Bros studio, but if you tell your guide that you are a fan of the show, they'll likely tailor the tour to highlight a few of the filming locations and maybe even share some behind-the-scenes info about the series!
