Despite the fact that it’s been out for just three seasons, Apple TV+’s football-focused original series Ted Lasso has already garnered a cult following. Starring Jason Sudeikis as the titular yank hired to coach the downtrodden Premier League team AFC Richmond by his ex Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham), the show has been praised for its positivity and charming depictions of life in London’s football-adjacent suburbs.
The show was filmed mostly at West London Studios, though the exterior shots of AFC Richmond’s Nelson Road training ground and the stadium are filmed at SkyEx Community Stadium, home to Hayes and Yeading United FC. The stadium also doubles as AFC Richmond’s stadium for games, with the fictional club’s colors and branding largely unaltered.
You might also recognize the quaint street that Coach Beard and his players live on, as well as a local Argentinian cafe called Chango’s Empanadas. It’s a real place located in the English town of Richmond, and Hunt says that when they first arrived for production, the cast were “immediately enchanted with it.”
The centuries-old pub seen on the show, The Prince’s Head, is an actual boozer in the town, as is the nearby grassy area where we often see Coach Beard having heart-to-hearts with his therapist (Doc Sharon Fieldstone). And then there’s Richmond Park, which also appears frequently in the show. The 12-acre public park serves as the site of many scenes, including one in which a talented female footballer dribbles circles around Ted and his players.
