The CW series Supernatural depicts the Winchester brothers, Dean (Jared Padalecki) and Sam (Jensen Ackles), who hunt demons, ghosts and other supernatural forces. The show lasted for 15 seasons, before it came to an end in 2020. The CW has now announced it is launching a prequel called 'The Origins of Supernatural', to fill in some of the gaps in the story and provide answers to fans.
The show is primarily filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia. However, some scenes are filmed in other locations around the United States.
Each episode takes 8 working days to film. These shooting days are Monday through Friday. The crew and cast must be given a certain amount of rest between each day. It's not uncommon for the filming of one episode to stretch over more than a week.
In addition, the shoot can be rushed to meet deadlines or to stay ahead of broadcast schedules. This is particularly true for movies and television shows that air once a week.
For this reason, the episodes in the middle of each season can be noticeably different in tone and look from the first half to the second half. The production team may also change locations for various reasons. For example, if the weather is bad, they might move to another location that is more conducive to making the shoot go smoothly. The Men of Letters bunker at Lebanon, Indiana is one of my favorite Supernatural locations. It is in the geographic center of the 48 contiguous states, so it has some historical significance.
