If you can't get enough of Florence Pugh, you might be interested in her latest psychological period drama movie called The Wonder (2022). It is based on the novel of the same name by Emma Donoghue and stars Pugh as English nurse Lib Wright who goes to a small rural village in 1862 Ireland to observe a girl who doesn't eat. The film centers around the 'fasting girl' who becomes the focus of curious pilgrims and tourists, and it appears that something much darker may be happening at the village.
The film was filmed in both the city of Dublin and County Wicklow for scenes that take place in the countryside, with the majority of the outdoor scenery being shot in Ireland. The filmmakers wanted to make sure the movie felt authentic, especially for the actors. So, they made sure that most of the cast were from either the UK or Ireland to help create that sense of familiarity for the characters.
For the interiors, many of the scenes were filmed at a studio set located in a hangar in Dublin's Weston Airport. However, the production team did also use a number of real locations for other outdoor scenes. One of the more interesting places used for filming was a forest near Dublin that has been turned into a public park.
Another location used was the Tilbury Fort in Essex, which doubled as the German submarine anchored at the dock. The production also filmed the ship docking scene at the Port of Tilbury and the train station in London's King's Cross.
