If you’re like most fans of the Umbrella Academy series, you may be eagerly awaiting the new season to debut on Netflix. Thankfully, that day is closer than you think — production for the highly anticipated fourth and final season has officially begun. And that means your favorite dysfunctional family of superheroes is back in Toronto. The show’s cast – including Elliot Page, Tom Hopper, Robert Sheehan, David Castaneda, Aidan Gallagher, Emmy Raver-Lampman and Justin H. Min – was recently spotted at the first table read for the new season in the city that helped bring their story to life.
While the Umbrella Academy was filmed in many locations around the world, one Ontario location stands out above the rest. Narcity chatted with a few of the actors to find out which filming location made the biggest impression on them.
In the premiere episode of the Netflix hit, we see Marcus and Vanya meet up at a diner that was actually filmed in the Lakeview Restaurant on Dundas Street in Toronto. Later in the episode, Viktor and Allison meet up on a beach with impressive cliffs in the background — this was filmed at Bluffer’s Park Lookout near Scarborough.
Another notable location is Griddy’s Donuts, a donut shop that makes its first appearance in the second episode of the season. It was actually a real donut shop in the heart of downtown Hamilton, and the owner of the place said the experience was incredible. Also, when you watch the third episode, you’ll probably notice that the house where the Umbrella Academy kids live is a mansion called Parkwood Estate in Oshawa, Ontario.
