Pickleball players have increased over the years, and it's easy to see why. While being immersive and suitable for every age, it gives you a mix of tennis, badminton, and ping pong. With the increasing demand for the game's play area, the need for having your own court is becoming more relevant. Following the correct steps is essential if you plan to have one for your outdoor space. Here are some to consider:

Pick the Right Dimensions

The size of your court has a huge impact on the gameplay, both in terms of comfort and safety. During the sessions, there ought to be enough space to maneuver without risking collisions with other players. Adhere to the court standard dimensions of 20 feet wide and 44 feet long, and this is for both single and double plays.

Remember to include additional space for the baselines, non-volley zones, and sidelines. The playing area standard size of the pickleball court when converting to a tennis court should be 30 by 60 fit. For a standalone court, going with 34 by 64 fit dimensions is preferable.

Selecting the Location

Select a location that offers the proper comfort to players and aligns with the local regulations. Begin by picking a level area with a minimum slope range of between 0.8% to 1%. Work with a surveyor or engineer who will ascertain the inclination and which surface preparations are necessary.

During game sessions, players shouldn't face the sun. Choose the north-south of the pitch, which will ensure there isn't directional glare, especially during peak playing times. Furthermore, the possibilities of wind interference with the ball's flight should be considered, and a location with low-wind conditions should be picked.

Choose the Right Surface Material

The court's surface needs to be flawless, as the player's experience depends on it. You need to choose highly resilient materials for high foot traffic and weather elements. Two of the most common ones to consider are concrete and asphalt due to their durability. Another material to consider is snap-together plastic.

Consider also the ease of maintenance of your material. The non-porous options are always the best to make cleaning easy. This also means the chances of algae and mold growth will be minimal.

Consider Lighting Options

Even in the evenings or on cloudy days, you should be able to use the court comfortably. The trick is installing lighting fixtures, such as light poles and overhead lights. Place them strategically, preferably 24 inches back from the court. Make each 1500-watt light pole have a height of 18 and 20 to allow maximum illumination. This ensures that no matter how many hours of training or playing you have, there won't be glare issues.

Get a Perimeter Fence

A fence plays a huge role in ensuring the ball is always contained within the playing area while enhancing the site's aesthetics. Go with a mesh-like design to allow spectator visibility and better light exposure. You need to get the height of the fence right by picking the standard range of 10 to 12 feet to enjoy maximum containment of the ball during plays. The posts need to be sturdy and resistant to corrosion and rust. Consult with your court resurfacing experts on the best type of fence.

Endnote

A pickleball court's attributes must be great for the gameplay to be exciting and comfortable for players. It starts with planning where you'll choose the right location and prepare the space accordingly. Get right with the length and width of the court, and have plenty of extra space. Focusing your efforts on the set standards is a good idea.
