Jordan Belfort's Famous Long Island House

April 12, 2024

Jordan Belfort is a former stockbroker turned criminal turned best selling author. You probably are more familiar with Leonardo DiCaprio's portrayal of him in the 2013 Martin Scorsese film, The Wolf of Wall Street. The movie was based off of Jordan's 2007 memoir, of the same name. The memoir, as well as the movie, detail Jordan's rise and fall in the stock market world. Born in NYC in 1962, Jordan got his start as a trainee stockbroker at L.F. Rothschild during the mid 1980's. After being laid off, he founded Stratton Oakmont. It was during this time that he was notorious for throwing lavish parties, marketing penny stocks, and would defraud investors using a technique called "pump and dump." Not to be confused with pumping breast milk after drinking, "pump and dump" is when a broker will artificially inflate the price of a cheaply owned stock through misleading or fake positive statements, in order to sell the stock at a higher price than it was purchased for. Once the stock is sold, the price will fall and the investors typically will lose all, if not most, of their money.

This fraudulent behavior eventually caught up with Jordan, and in 1999 he was indicted for securities fraud and money laundering. After his indictment, Jordan became an FBI informant, and would wear a wire while meeting with many partners and associates. He also would testify against them, hoping to earn himself a reduced sentence. It seemed to have worked because On July 18, 2003, he was sentenced to just four years in prison. He only ended up seeing 22 months, and was ordered to pay back $110.4 million to his victims.

While in prison, Jordan shared a cell with Tommy Chong, of Cheech & Chong. It was Tommy that suggested he write his story, which Jordan did. It was this friendship that not only created the memoir of book The Wolf of Wall Street, but also Segued Jordan into a career of motivational speaker.

The Notorious House

Before Jordan became an informant turned prisoner turned motivational speaker, he was known for throwing wild parties in his Long Island mansion. It was also this house which served as the backdrop with the movie. Check out Jordan Belfort's former house below.

In 2001 it was sold for $2.5 million, with the sum of that sale going towards $110 million that Jordan was required to pay back the victims he defrauded. Originally built in 1986, the five bedrooms, eight bathroom home boasts 8,706 sq ft of space. Considering Jordan lived in this Long Island mansion during the height of his hard partying and frauding, it only makes sense that the interior is opulent and over the top. The ceilings are custom painted, and arched. The floors are a mix of marble, hardwood, and custom tiles. The kitchen features a large hanging chandelier, as well as recessed lighting and a huge marble island. And the oversized grand living room has a custom, hand carved stone fireplace. As well as not one, but two hanging crystal chandeliers.

Upstairs, the main en suite is decked out in mahogany detailing. From the whirlpool bathtub wrapped in floor to ceiling mahogany, to the mahogany vanity, sink area, and paneling. And of course, there is a small crystal chandelier and recessed lighting.

The main walk-in closet, which in reality, is more of a large bedroom, has an incredible marble island with drawers on all sides. The ceiling looks heavenly with murals of painted sky and clouds.

This home wouldn't be complete without a gym, a racquetball court, a large swimming pool, and a large outdoor deck. The backyard is surrounded by lush greenery, and a large patio, perfect for entertaining.
